People who use echolocation often use multiple cane taps or tongue "clicks" to explore the environment. How is that information assembled into perceived objects? The National Eye Institute has awarded an R21 grant investigating this question to Dr. Santani Teng, Associate Scientist at Smith-Kettlewell. The two-year exploratory project, in collaboration with UCSF's Biomagnetic Imaging Laboratory, will model brain and behavioral mechanisms of accumulating echo information.
